Terms of Use for CBR

The following document is a list of the policies and procedures that CBR will require all users to follow while on our site. If there are any questions concerning our terms of use, please contact Customer Service Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Central Time. We appreciate your business!

When using our site

  • You will not use our site in order to collect personal information of other customers.
  • You will not provide information acquired from our site to a third party.
  • You will not attempt to gain access to our network or automated systems.
  • You will not be allowed to create multiple accounts through the use of multiple email addresses.

All textbook rentals and purchases through CBR shall be made according to the following terms and conditions.

Rent or Buy

List Price The list prices for items found on CBR are determined from a myriad of sources to include several experienced wholesale textbook companies and publisher data.

Pricing or Listing Error If an item is priced or listed incorrectly on our website due to a programming error or an error in pricing from one of our trusted third-party providers, CBR reserves the right to cancel that order. If your credit card has already been charged, CBR will immediately issue a credit to your credit card account.

Credit Cards CBR accepts MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. There is no surcharge for using your credit card on our site. Please provide the same number and address that is listed with your financial institution. Providing us with incorrect credit card information can cause a delay with your order. Once your order is accepted, you agree to refrain from canceling your credit card account used to rent your item(s) until they are returned. In the event that the credit card account used to rent your item(s) is canceled prior to the return of our item(s), you agree to contact us immediately.

Sales Tax Each state has its own laws governing the charge of sales tax and/or rental tax for college textbooks. CBR charges sales and rental taxes applicable to your state's requirements.

Trusted Third-Party Suppliers If CBR is unable to fulfill an order from our central warehouse, we may use trusted third-party suppliers to find the requested item(s). If your order is fulfilled by a third-party provider, your item(s) may not arrive in a CBR package. All textbook rentals must be returned to CBR regardless of the supplier that initially ships the item(s) to you.

Discounts and Coupon Codes CBR does not allow customers to combine discounts, promotional offers, or coupon codes. A customer may only use one discount offer per transaction.

No Discounts on New Book Purchases Discounts including, but not limited to, bundling, promotional offers, free shipping offers, or coupon codes may not be applied to new book purchases on collegebookrenter.com.

Supplemental Materials Additional materials such as CDs, access codes, or laboratory manuals are not guaranteed to accompany the textbook rental. Since other students have used the textbook(s) you're renting, any supplemental materials may have been removed and CBR will not be able to replace them.

Order Processing Orders are usually processed within 24 hours on business days. Shipping time begins after processing is complete. Business days are Monday - Friday, excluding holidays observed by the United States Postal Service and UPS, such as New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Please remember that Saturday and Sunday do not count as business days.

Changing Account Information Log in to your CBR account and proceed to the My Account section. Click Edit My Account Info to update your account information. When you've made all the necessary changes, click Save Changes. Changes to account information only affect future orders. Existing orders will not be affected.

Undeliverable Shipments If an item(s) rented through CBR is returned as undeliverable due to an incorrect address, your account will be refunded for this portion of the order, less shipping charges. If the item(s) is successfully delivered to the incorrect address or is lost during this process and is not received by CBR, you will be charged the full purchase price of the item(s).

Order Cancellation CBR serves thousands of customers every day, and because of the volume of our orders, we cannot change or cancel your order after it has been placed. You will have the opportunity to review your shipping information, rentals, and shipping method before you finalize your order. Once your order has been finalized and you receive an order number, the order cannot be stopped or changed. If you receive a book that you do not want or need, you can return the book for a refund less shipping and return processing fees. Please refer to our Return Policy for refund details.

Receive

Shipping All orders fulfilled by CBR will be shipped by FedEx, UPS, or USPS from our warehouse. Any orders fulfilled by our trusted third-party providers may also be shipped by DHL GlobalMail, FedEx, UPS, or USPS. CBR and our third-party providers cannot guarantee when an order will arrive. The customer must understand that all shipping timelines offered by CBR are estimates.

Packages shipped via standard shipping may not have tracking numbers. If your package is not received within the estimated shipping time, please contact our customer service department immediately. If the package's tracking number states "Delivered" to the address you provided at Checkout and the package cannot be located, then you will be charged the full purchase price of the item(s).

Lost or Damaged Upon Receipt Please notify us immediately if the book you receive is damaged, or if you have not received your book and the tracking information shows that the book has been delivered. You must notify CBR within seven business days of your rental's expected arrival date if you have not received your item or if you received it and it is damaged. If you don't report your rental as lost or damaged, you will be charged the full purchase price for the rental upon the expiration of the term.

Lost, Stolen, or Damaged During the Rental Term If the rented textbook is lost, stolen, or damaged during your rental period, you will be charged the purchase price of the book at the end of the rental period.

Damage Fees Fees will be charged for lost, stolen, or damaged textbook(s). Your account will be charged for the full purchase price of the item(s) at the end of the rental term.

Each item will be thoroughly inspected for damages upon arrival at our warehouse. You will be notified via email of any charges. This email will be sent to the email address used to initially place the order containing the item(s) in question, regardless of any other email address(es) on the account before or since.

Examples of unacceptable damages include, but are not limited to

  • Torn or missing pages
  • Damaged cover or spine/binding
  • Stains on or inside the product
  • Water damage
  • Excessive highlighting/writing (workbooks received with missing or completed pages will not be accepted and will be charged)
  • Any other damages that would determine the book unusable

As a condition of your rental agreement, you hereby grant CBR the right to assess damage fees and charge them to the credit or debit card on file for the account. CBR reserves the right to charge any card on your account if the primary card is declined. Additionally, charges that are declined may be re-charged at any time and for as many attempts as necessary to collect the outstanding balance of the account. CBR is not responsible for any overdraft fees or penalties incurred from these charges.

In the event that any charges against the customer's credit card are declined for any reason, CBR will provide delinquent account information to a collection agency in an attempt to recover payment for lost property. All accounts sent to a collection agency are subject to additional fees.

UPS Tracking Terms and Conditions The UPS package tracking systems accessed via this website (the "Tracking Systems") and tracking information obtained through this website (the "Information") are the private property of UPS. UPS authorizes you to use the Tracking Systems solely to track shipments tendered by or for you to UPS for delivery and for no other purpose. Without limitation, you are not authorized to make the Information available on any website or otherwise reproduce, distribute, copy, store, use or sell the Information for commercial gain without the express written consent of UPS. This is a personal service, thus your right to use the Tracking Systems or Information is non-assignable. Any access or use that is inconsistent with these terms is unauthorized and strictly prohibited.

Return

Returns at the End of Your Rental Period CBR makes returns easy and free!

  • Log in to your CBR account using your email address and password.
  • Under Rentals and Purchases, select the item(s) you'd like to return.
  • Click Return Books and select the return reason.
  • Click Return Books and print both the shipping label and packing slips.
  • Place one slip in the package with your books. Keep the other copy for your records.
  • Tape the return shipping label to the package being used to return the rental(s).
  • Take your box to the local post office to ship your rental(s) back to CBR.

You may combine multiple orders in the same return box. Please place a copy of each pack slip inside the box and use one return label. Always use a sturdy shipping container and make sure to use packing tape (not scotch or masking tape) to seal your package. Books lost or damaged during return shipment due to improper packaging are the responsibility of the renter and subject to damage fees.

To avoid extra charges, please do not mail your rental(s) in a USPS Priority Shipping box. If your rental(s) arrive in this type of box, you will be charged the entire return shipping cost.

Please carefully check your return package and verify that the books you need to return to CBR match the books listed on your packing slip. Due to the volume of packages received, books shipped to CBR in error cannot be returned.

Just remember: ship your rental(s) back to CBR using the steps above and be sure to return all rental(s) to CBR regardless of where your order originated.

Before Your Rental Term Expires The return date for your textbook(s) will be posted on your account immediately following your order confirmation and will remain posted on your account throughout the rental period. Rental return reminders are sent 15, 10, 7, and 3 days prior to the expiration of your rental period.

This email will be sent to the email address used to initially place the order containing the item(s) in question, regardless of any other email address(es) on the account before or since. Failure to receive an email reminder does not waive your obligation to have your textbook(s) returned or postmarked by the end of the rental term.

Late Fees A book is considered "returned" on time when it is in transit to our warehouse on or before the due date. If your textbook(s) is not in transit to CBR with the tracking provided by our prepaid return label from your account by the last day of your rental period, then your rental is considered overdue. Your debit or credit card may be charged a late extension fee the first day after the due date. This charge will extend the rental term for 7 days.

If your textbook(s) is not returned and/or the prepaid return label not used by the extended due date, then your credit card will be charged the purchase price of the textbook and the book(s) will be yours to keep.

You will be notified via email of any late charges. This email will be sent to the email address used to initially place the order containing the item(s) in question, regardless of any other email address(es) on the account before or since.

As a condition of your rental agreement, you hereby grant CBR the right to assess late fees and charge them to the credit or debit card on file for the account. CBR reserves the right to charge any card on your account if the primary card is declined. Additionally, charges that are declined may be re-charged at any time and for as many attempts as necessary to collect the outstanding balance of the account. CBR is not responsible for any overdraft fees or penalties incurred from these charges.

In the event that any charges against the customer's credit card are declined for any reason, CBR will provide delinquent account information to a collection agency in an attempt to recover payment for lost property. All accounts sent to a collection agency are subject to additional fees.

Return of a Purchased Book If you return a textbook(s) after being charged the full purchase price for not returning the rented item(s), the charge will not be refunded. You will be notified via email if the book is received. You may request the textbook(s) be returned to you, at your cost, or you may have the option to sell the item(s) to CBR based on the current buyback price listed on our website (if available). The book will be held for 10 days from receipt. After 10 days, the book(s) will be considered abandoned and will be donated or recycled and cannot be retrieved.

Product Is Returned to a Third-Party Shipper If a rented item(s) is returned to a third-party shipper instead of CBR, the customer will be charged a $10.00 penalty fee for recovery of each item. If an item(s) rented from CBR is lost, stolen, or damaged while in transit to a third-party shipper, or cannot be located at the shipping facility, then the customer will be charged the full purchase price of the item. The customer will be notified via email of these charges.

As a condition of your rental agreement, you hereby grant CBR the right to assess recovery fees and charge them to the credit card on file for the account.

Refund Policy CBR understands that you might need to return your rental prior to its due date for a refund because your class has been dropped or cancelled. To accommodate these changes, CBR allows you to print your prepaid return label from your account anytime and ship your rental back to us. Please select the reason for the early return. To qualify for a refund of the rental price (less the initial shipping fee), your books must be postmarked within 21 days of your original order date. When you return your textbook for a refund, a $5 per book return processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Please refer to our Return Policy for general return guidelines.

Textbook Buybacks Any item(s) purchased by CBR from a seller through the website will be subject to an extensive inspection before payment will be issued. The inspection will be based on the item condition criteria that are listed on the "Sell Textbooks" portion of our site. Any received item(s) that fail to meet the criteria will be deemed "unusable" and no payment will be issued.

CBR will buy a maximum of five copies of a title per customer. Additional copies received will not be honored. Please contact Customer Support if you wish to sell back more than five copies of one title.

Please carefully check your package and verify that the books you ship to CBR match the books listed on your packing slip. Due to the volume of packages received, books shipped to CBR in error cannot be returned.

Payment for Books Sold to CBR
If an item is available for buyback, you can choose to be paid by CBR credit, PayPal, or check. You will notice that CBR pays different amounts based on the payment method you choose. CBR credit will be applied directly to your account and can be used to rent or purchase additional items from our site. Payments will be distributed to you after your item has been received and inspected.
