What is the rental process and is it easy?
CBR's goal is to make your textbook rental experience as easy as possible! After setting up your free account, simply search for the ISBN, author, or title of the textbook you'd like to rent, and add the book to your cart. Next, you'll enter your shipping/billing addresses and payment information. Finally, review your personal and financial information and confirm your order. Your textbook will soon be on its way. You will be able to print your receipt from the confirmation page or from the email sent to you after you place the order.
Are there any membership fees, and how much will this cost me?
We will never charge you membership fees for doing business with us.
What is the return due date for my rental?

The return date for your textbook will be posted on your CBR account immediately following your order confirmation and will remain there throughout the rental period. We know your life is hectic, so we'll send you rental return reminders 15, 10, 7, and 3 days prior to the expiration of your rental period.

Example: If your rental period ends on May 25th, then you will receive a personalized email from CBR on May 10th reminding you of the upcoming expiration of the rental period.

This email will be sent to the email address used to initially place the order containing the item(s) in question, regardless of any other email address(es) on the account before or since. Failure to receive an email reminder does not waive your obligation to have your textbook(s) returned on or before your due date.

How do I extend my rental?
Log in to your CBR account and select the book you wish to extend. Next, click on the Extend Book button. Click on the drop-down menu and choose the extension option, and then continue to checkout.
What if I want to buy a textbook instead of renting it?
If you would prefer to own your textbooks instead of renting them, CBR can help. Use the search bar to find the item you would like to purchase, and we will provide you with a new and used book purchase price for that item if available. With CBR, buying textbooks is as easy as renting textbooks.
I received my book and it was not in a CBR package; why is that?

If CBR is unable to fulfill an order internally, we will go to one of our partners to find the book you need. As a result, your items may not arrive in a CBR package.

If you receive your order from one of our partners, you may find a receipt in the box. This invoice is for our records only and does not reflect the amount you will be charged for your rental. The amount you were charged can be found in the order details section of your account or on your order confirmation email.

At the end of your rental term, remember that even if you received your order from a CBR partner, you must return all rentals to CBR to avoid being charged additional fees.

Are supplemental materials such as CDs and Access Codes included?
CBR does not guarantee that any supplemental materials related to the textbook will be included. Since other students have used the textbooks you're renting, the materials could have been removed and CBR will not be able to replace them.
Can I cancel or edit my order?
CBR serves thousands of customers every day, and because of the volume of our orders, we cannot change or cancel your order after it has been placed. You will have the opportunity to review your shipping information, rentals, and shipping method before you finalize your order. Remember that once your order has been finalized and you receive an order number, the order cannot be stopped or changed. If you receive a book that you do not want or need, you can always return the book for a refund less shipping and return processing fees.


What kind of shipping will I be charged?

Do you ship outside the United States?
CBR only ships to the contiguous United States, Alaska and Hawaii.
What happens if my book is lost in the mail or damaged upon receipt?
Please notify us immediately if the book you receive is damaged, or if you have not received your book and the tracking information shows that the book has been delivered. You must notify CBR within seven business days of your rental's expected arrival date if you have not received your item or if you received it and it is damaged. If you don't report your rental as lost or damaged, you will be charged the full purchase price for the rental upon the expiration of the term.
My book has not arrived. How can I get information on it?
To track your CBR order, please log in to your account. Click on the Order # under Rentals and Purchases to find tracking information on the invoice. Please understand that exceptions may occur in transit, so be sure to check the date that you placed the order and the expected arrival date. If you've waited the appropriate amount of time and your book still has not arrived, please contact Customer Support.
How do I change my shipping address?
Log in to your CBR account and proceed to the My Account section. Click Edit My Account Info to update your account information. When you've made all the necessary changes, click Save Changes to confirm. Changes to account information will be available for future orders. Changing account information after the placement of an order will not change the order information after it was submitted.
How long does it take to process an order?
Orders are usually processed within 24 hours on business days. Shipping time begins after the processing is complete. Business days are Monday - Friday, excluding holidays observed by the United States Postal Service and UPS, such as New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Please remember that Saturday and Sunday do not count as business days.
Can I apply shipping discount offers to book purchases?
Free or discounted outbound shipping offers extended through email, social media, CBR Affiliates, and other promotions can only be applied to textbook rentals, not new or used textbook purchases.

Book Condition

Can I highlight or write in the textbooks?
We want to ensure that every customer receives the highest quality textbook possible. CBR will not penalize you for minimal highlighting, but please avoid any writing in or on your rental. If a rental is determined unusable because of excessive writing, you will be charged the full purchase price of the rental at the end of the rental term. Protecting the integrity of our rentals helps us save you money.
What happens if my book is lost or damaged?

If the rented textbook is lost, stolen, or damaged during your rental period, your account will be charged for the full purchase price of the rental at the end of the rental term.

Each item will be thoroughly inspected for damages upon arrival at our warehouse.

Examples of unacceptable damages include, but are not limited to

  1. Torn or missing pages
  2. Damaged cover or spine/binding
  3. Stains on or inside the product
  4. Water damage
  5. Writing or excessive highlighting
  6. Any other damages that would make the item unusable

Please be responsible with your rental!

Return Information

How do I return a book for a refund?

CBR understands that you might need to return your rental prior to its due date for a refund because your class has been dropped or cancelled. To accommodate these changes, CBR allows you to print your prepaid return label from your account anytime and ship your rental back to us. Please select the reason for the early return. To qualify for a refund of the rental price (less the initial shipping fee), your return must be postmarked within 21 days of your original order date. When you return the textbook for a refund, a $5 per book return processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Please refer to our Return Policy for general return guidelines.

How do I return my books when I am done?

CBR makes returns easy and free!

  • Log in to your CBR account using your email address and password.
  • Under Rentals and Purchases, select the item(s) you'd like to return.
  • Click Return Books and select the return reason.
  • Click Return Books and print both the shipping label and packing slips.
  • Place one slip in the package with your books. Keep the other copy for your records.
  • Tape the return shipping label to the package being used to return the rental(s).
  • Take your box to the local post office to ship your rental(s) back to CBR.

To avoid extra charges, please do not mail your rental(s) in a USPS Priority Shipping box. If your rental(s) arrive in this type of box, you will be charged the entire return shipping cost.

You may combine multiple orders in the same return box. Please place a copy of each pack slip inside the box and use one return label. Always use a sturdy shipping container and make sure to use packing tape (not scotch or masking tape) to seal your package. Books lost or damaged during return shipment due to improper packaging are the responsibility of the renter.

Please carefully check your return package and verify that the books you need to return to CBR match the books listed on your packing slip. Due to the volume of packages received, books shipped to CBR in error cannot be returned.

Just remember: ship your rental(s) back to CBR using the steps above and be sure to return all rental(s) to CBR regardless of where your order originated.


Are there any late fees?

A book is considered "returned" on time when it is in transit to our warehouse on or before the due date. Therefore, if your textbook(s) is not in transit to CBR with the tracking provided by our prepaid return label from your account by the last day of your rental period, then your rental is considered overdue. Your debit or credit card may be charged a late extension fee the first day after the due date. This charge will extend the rental term for 7 days.

If your textbook(s) is not returned and/or the prepaid return label not used by the extended due date, then your credit card will be charged the purchase price of the textbook and the book(s) will be yours to keep.

You will be notified via email of any late charges. This email will be sent to the email address used to initially place the order containing the item(s) in question, regardless of any other email address(es) on the account before or since.

Will I be charged sales and or rental tax?
Each state has its own laws governing the charge of sales tax and/or rental tax for college textbooks. CBR charges sales and rental taxes applicable to your state's requirements.
Why doesn't the invoice in my box match my rental charges?

If CBR does not have your textbook in our inventory at the time of your order, we may purchase it from one of our trusted third-party suppliers to ensure you get the books you need quickly.

If your order was filled in this manner, it may arrive in a non-CBR branded package and the invoice enclosed in the package may not reflect the actual amount you were charged for your order. The amount you were charged can always be found in your order details on My Account or in your order confirmation email.


How do I add books to my "Saved Books" list?
Simply click the star icon beside Add to Bag and the book will be saved to My Saved Books. You can view your saved books anytime in the Saved Books section of your CBR account. The books saved on your list will remain in your account until you remove them. You can easily rent saved books by selecting Move to Shopping Bag from the Saved Books section of My Account.
How do I opt-out of promotional emails?
Log in to your CBR account and choose Edit Account Information. Simply remove the check mark from the "Please send me promotional emails from CBR and its affiliates." box and save your changes. Please be aware that customers who choose to opt-out will still receive order-related notifications (such as order and shipment confirmations).


Will CBR buy this book?

Have books lying around, collecting dust? Sell your textbooks back to CBR and earn cash fast.

Simply use the search bar on our Sell Textbooks page to view the buyback prices on the item(s) you wish to sell. If CBR is purchasing an item, our site will display various price options for you to determine how you would like to be paid.

CBR will buy a maximum of five copies of a title per customer. Additional copies received will not be honored. Please contact Customer Support if you wish to sell back more than five copies of one title.

Please carefully check your package and verify that the books you ship to CBR match the books listed on your packing slip. Due to the volume of packages received, books shipped to CBR in error cannot be returned.

When and how will I receive my payment for my book?
If an item is available for buyback, you can choose to be paid by CBR credit, PayPal, or check. You will notice that CBR pays different amounts based on the payment method you choose. CBR credit will be applied directly to your account and can be used to rent or purchase additional items from our site. Payments will be distributed to you after your item has been received and inspected.
